Subject: John Roberts/Widow Glasgow/Patrick Lowrey/James Hughston of Newberry Co. in 1784 From: Scottsbo12 Date: June 18, 2000 My 4th gr grandfather John McCutchen received an indent from SC for his service in the Rev War...on the back of his indent are found several entries of which these are two: "Received 21st October 1785 Eight Pounds 3/4 in part of the within Indent on discount for 135 acres of land in my name & 210 in the name of John Roberts"..."Received 21st October 1785 Two Pounds 6/8 in part of the within Indent on discount for one hundred acres of land in the name of John Roberts". I am not sure of the meaning of these entries...whether possibly Roberts had loaned McCutchen money and this was a form of repayment, whether Roberts was kin, etc. I would like to hear from any Roberts researcher re: this John Roberts and possible clues to these transactions. PS...McCutchen's 135 acres was on Gilders Creek bordering Widow (Mary) Glascow, Patrick Lowry, James Hughston (Huston)...would also like to hear from any of their descendants to know more about these neighbors as well as where exactly this area is located.
