Subject: John and Mary Chappell From: Judith G. Brabham Date: April 29, 2000 Hello Rusty, More entries from "Greenwood County Sketches." Neither "proves that John Thomas was Thomas' father," but the dates -- if not the conjectured given names of the wife of John Thomas -- seem to coincide, so I thought the entries might be useful. "Elizabeth (Betsy) BROOKS, 1798-1870, was married in 1816 to John CHAPPELL, 1795-1855, youngest son of Thomas and Delia Hazel Chappell. The town of Chappells in Newberry County was named for Thomas Chappell. John and Betsy Brooks CHAPPELL had six children: Thomas Henry, Nancy, Mary, John Wesley, James Butler and Stanmore Brooks CHAPPELL." (pgs. 162-163) "Allen VANCE [1803-1865], son of Nathaniel and Mary McTier VANCE, married first Mrs. Rebecca GARY, no children. In 1840 he married second Mary CHAPPELL, 1823-1870, daughter of John and Betsy Brooks CHAPPELL. . . Vance also had property in Louisiana." (p. 402) Judith in Brooklyn, NY Trying to establish a firmer foothold on the shoulders of the ancestors who are my support and my strength.
