While on a trip around McCormick Co (researching my McComb roots) my husband
I saw an old stone building by the side of the road.. we got out and made
pictures of it.. over the doorway was etched in stone "LJ Petigru 1851" . We
found out that this was Petigru's Springhouse of which I read later he was
very proud..

We also went into Badwell Cemetery.. it was very exciting because at the
time we were new to McComb/McCormick research and just to come up on
something like this.. but that is McCormick/Abbeville.. you never know what
you might find around the corner or poking in the woods..

In McCormick/Abbeville some folks have started what is called Long Cane
Historical Inc... they are working to promote and preserve the history of
the Long Canes area (which there is alot).. many old churches, cemeteries,
old houses etc...

Like I mentioned before there is a list called Long Canes where we share
info etc. about this area.. the list was started by John Calvin Grier who is
a member of the Long Canes Historical Inc... already in place is a Battle of
the Long Canes which is a Rev War reenactment which has already been taking
place for several years..
