Jacob Carter is the ancestor of many Carters in Florida, Georgia, and
South Carolina. For a while he was presumed to be the son of Moore
Carter d. 1741 in NC, but his son Jacob died in 1797 in Nash County
NC.

Could Jacob be the grandson of Thomas Carter whose wife Mary who are
in SC before 1698 when she administered his estate?

Also are there two Jacob Carters in S.C. from 1760's forward? The S.
C. Memorials list Jacob Carter receiving land in Colleton 1765.
Another entry has a Jacob Carter in 1771? getting a grant in Craven.
The memorials show two more land grants to Jacob in Craven and one
more to Jacob in Colleton. The micro film I was using was to dark to
clearly show the dates of these last three Grants. Possibly Jacob of
Craven received one of his grants in 173?. If so could he be the
father of Jacob of Colleton and the son of Thomas Carter d. 1698?
