Subject: HUTCHINSON, CHALMERS, ANDERSON, BATEMAN, WATSON, BERESFORD, PASQUEREAU, GIBBON, DENNIS, PINCKNEY, D'HARRIETTE, VANE, NEUFVILLE From: ELIZABETH RUSSO Date: January 14, 2000 By virtue of his stated profession as being cabinet maker, I believe this THOMAS HUTCHINSON to be the same as, or father or uncle to, the THOMAS HUTCHINSON who died c. 1783 who willed his property to the ELFE family. THOMAS ELFE, whose business records are among the only or few records extant for a cabinetmaker/carpenter of colonial Charleston, is thus the best-known furniture maker of this era. THOMAS ELFE lived on Queen Street in Charleston, as did supposedly PETER DUBOIS, also a cabinetmaker/carpenter. PETER DUBOIS m. ANNE CLARKSON CARNE, daughter of JOHN CARNE and MARY HUTCHINSON. I am trying to tie MARY in with THOMAS, and thus with RIBTON HUTCHINSON, the latter two being mentioned below. Any/all help appreciated! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Book V-V, p. 115 THOMAS HUTCHINSON, cabinet maker, sole execu- 29 & 30 Nov. 1757 tor of will of RIBTON HUTCHINSON, gentleman, L & R to LIONEL CHALMERS, chirurgeon; all of Charleston; for L4100 currency, that large double wooden house & part of lot #85 in Charleston, formerly owned by RIBTON HUTCHINSON, bounding S 111 ft. on Union Alley running from Union Street to New Church Street; @ 96 ft. 10 in. on ALEXANDER ANDERSON (from Union alley to HENRY BATEMAN); N. about 100 ft.
