Subject: Help with signatures From: Lee Adair Date: May 24, 1999 Are signatures in the county Deed books originals or copies made by a scribe? I was examining some Laurens Co. Deed Book microfilms for the late 1700's and noticed that a number of the "signatures" seemed to be written in the same hand as the individual who wrote up the deed. These signatures were _not_ among those that an individual had signed using his or her "mark". Also a number of them were followed by the letters L.S. Could someone clue me in? ************************************************* W.
