I just looked on the LDS site and there were several John Donaldsons listed born
in 1745 but all of the Donaldsons were born in Scotland. Did your record say
England or
Great Britain or just Britain?  There is a site to post British inquiries at
[email protected] and their requirements are very exact at how to put the
name in the Subject line. First you have to subscribe to the list. There are
also other
British surname lists you can find on the rootsweb site that are not area
specific. If I were
you I would try to see if there is one for Scotland only.
Just some suggestions.
