Hello Carolyn,

I just don't know whether there is a connection, I suspect that some of
the Fairfield Co., SC Willingham went to Richmond/Columbia Co., GA, but
have found no definite connection as of yet. A grandson of John
Willingham, Jr.d. ca 1818 and his wife, Ann, of Columbia Co., GA, BROOKS
MOON WILLINGHAM married 1834 in Walton Co., GA to MARY LOUISA AUSTIN,
daughter of ISAAC AUSTIN, one of the earliest jurors in Walton Co., GA.

There has been found in land records some connection between the Holley
and Willingham families of Fairfield Co., SC; I recently read a letter
dated 21 August 1835 in A HISTORY OF TEXAS AND TEXANS by Johnson,
published 1914, from Stephen F. Austin, son of Moses Austin, to his
cousin Mrs. M.A. Holley. The location of Mrs. M.A. Holley is not given.
I find all this interesting, but, of course, proves nothing until a
connection can be found.

I see the name NEWMAN in your list of names; our family has a SC Newman
line and the following information is taken from an unpublished history
of the Newman family.Should you see something of interest, there is more
given in the history.

Elizabeth McElwee b. 1774 SC d. 1840 KY, daughter of WILLIAM MCELWEE,
m.4 Jan 1790 in York Dist. SC to Jonathan Newman b. 1764 NC d. 13 July
1844 KY, son of JONATHAN Newman who lived at Lincolnton, NC m. Rebecca.
Rebecca took her two children, Jonathan and Rachel, to live at Charles
Fork in York Co., SC after the death of her husband, JONATHAN.

Jonathan Newman and Elizabeth McElwee had five sons, Jacob, William,
Jonathan b. 16 May 1797, John, Josiah, and five daughters, Ann, Eliza or
Elizabeth, Mary m. King, ?, ?; one married Mr. Acre. Jonathan and
Elizabeth McElwee Newman moved from SC to KY and settled on Barren River
in Barren Co. Sons Jonathan and Jacob, when grown, went to Missouri,
Cooper Co. Jacob m. Priscilla Thomas and remained in MO; Jonathan went
to TX and on his way m. in Miller Co., AR to Mary "Polly" Harbour,
daughter of Joseph Harbour of the 1777 Pittsylvania/Henry Co., VA
Harbour family; Joseph Harbour received a Spanish Land Grant 1825 in
Washington Co., TX from Stephen F. Austin; Jonathan Newman's grant was
close to the Harbour League. Daughters of Archibald Willingham of
Columbia Co., GA who in 1839 moved to Washington Co., TX, married sons
of Joseph Harbour and also married into the Newman family. AND NOW WE
HAVE COME FULL CIRCLE BACK TO AUSTIN / WILLINGHAM / NEWMAN!
