Does anyone know of the history of the church and cemetery at Groomsville in
Berkeley? Groomsville is approximately 2 miles west of the little town of
Strawberry about midway off Spring Garden [Cypress Garden?] Road on
Groomsville Rd. According to the maps I have, Spring Garden Road runs from
Strawberry [ Route 52 ] west to US 17. I have been told that there are
several graves there dating back to the mid 1800s.

There is some information that Col. George Chicken had a plantation at
Groomsville in the early 1700s. Before his death, he built or provided land
for a at Strawberry, which was destroyed during the War
between the States.

Any information will be greatfully received. Ed T of PGH
