I recall seeing a list of some early taxpayers and perhaps as many as 1/6 of them had Greenberry as a first or middle name. When the puritans were tossed out of Virginia in about the 1640's, they landed at Greenberry's Point in Maryland; and I assume with no information to back it up, that the name is tradition as a result."
