GREEN, LEANDER JACK 1836-???? HAMILTON-MARION (FL)

Leander Jack Green was born October 15, 1836 in Bulloch County, Georgia.
His parents are unknown as is it believed that Leander was adopted. His
adoptive parents were Lewis Green and his wife, Martha Taylor, who were
married in Ware County, Georgia about 1835. This date is from an
application for pension filed by Martha Green for services Lewis gave in
the Indian wars. It is suspect as other references list her as being born
about 1824. She would have been only I I years old. Her year of birth is
consistently as 1824 listed in subsequent census records. Included in that
pension record is a statement from William Green, known by family tradition
as a brother to Leander, that he came to live with the Green family in
1845.
On March 13, 1857, Leander married Nancy M. Bassett, born in 1840 in
Hamilton County, Florida. She was the daughter of William Bassett and
Aurora Towler Bassett who were from South and North Carolina respectively.
Leander and Nancy were the parents of three children all born in Hamilton
County, Florida:

1. William Richard	b. 3/8/1858, m. Sarah Alice Casey,
	d. 7/26/1934.	1/12/1885 in Ocala, Fl., b. 1/??/1856, d. 6/19/1921.
2. Alice	b. 9/??/ 1861, m. 1. C. (or J. C.) Ellis, 4/24/1882 in Ocala, Fl.
3. Leander Jack, Jr.	b. 2/28/1862, m. Mrs. Mary Louzanna Adams,
	d. 1950. 12/21/1890 in Lake City, Fl.

Leander served in the CSA and was wounded in the left arm in December of
1862 during the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Nancy's parents lived many years in Hamilton County and later moved to
Marion County, Florida where Leander and Nancy followed and raised their
three children. Nancy died July 17, 1906 in either Marion or Columbia
County,
Florida. It is not known when Leander died. Contributed by: S. Martin
