Subject: Great Site to Visit From: Karen L Busby Date: November 14, 1998 Hi everyone, I ran across this site while checking some information on my lines out and wanted to pass it on. www.dos.state.fl.us/dlis/barm/PensionIntroduction.htm It contains Confederate pensions that were awarded to residents of Florida regardless of the state in which their service was rendered. The index is arranged by application file number and includes the veteran's name, his unit of service, state of service (if other than Florida), widow's first and maiden name, county from which the application was filed, and the earliest year of application. Among some familiar SC surnames found at this site are: SAULS, JOHNSON, POOSER, COLEMAN, MARTIN, JAUDON, ROUNTREE, HALFORD, YONGUE, VOGEL, SHAW, GRIZELLE, STRINGFELLOW, CATER, WILEY, TUTEN, ROBERTS, COKER, MIXON/MIXSON, WERTHEIM, HEWITT, and many others. Plus the usual SMITH, JONES, DAVIS, etc. If you have a lost relative from/or right after the Civil War, I would highly recommend that you check out this site. It seems a large mass moved to FLA after the War. I found several of my lines. I warn you though, when you go to the index, it might take awhile to load. If the index was printed out, it would be well over 500 pages and none of it is alphabetical.
