Hello,

You need to hurry to contact Dave Schneider. He has resigned, I think
this is his last month in Beaufort - he's taken a job out of state.

I've been told Gray's Hill is the highest point in Beaufort Co.
There is a branch of the Burton Fire District there, but no Post
Office. The main intersection seems right on Rt.#21.
One of our Beaufort Co. Council members is from Gray's Hill -
Eva Smalls - she may know of your DAVIS family.

You might try this URL to find info on this county (library with
its SC Genealogy Room, etc.):

	www.beaufortonline.com

This URL is an easy way to navigate web pages in Beaufort Co.

Our local historian is Gerhard Speiler. He writes articles for the
Beaufort Gazette just about weekly; his books date back 25+ years.
He may know something of your DAVIS/DAVIDSON/IHLY connections.

Good luck,
Elida of Port Royal Island

RE:	Re: Grays Hill, Beaufort County, SC

Grays Hill is sort of an area, not really a town, it's not really much of a hill
either. It doesn't have an actual identifiable town center. Part of it abuts
the Whale Branch River near where the Whale Branch connects with the Broad
River. One of the main roads into the town of Beaufort, Route 21 passes thru a
portion of Grays Hill. A good starting point for learning the history of Grays
Hill might be The Historic Beaufort Foundation. I don't know if they are on line
or not but the telephone works. Call Dave Schneider, the director at 843
524-6334. Good luck!
