Subject: Re: Grays Hill, Beaufort County, SC From: Klbusby Date: May 06, 1999 Patty, I do not remember alot of the history surrounding Gray's Hill, but I was told in the past concerned when Sherman came through SC. Here is how the story goes: When Sherman troops came into SC, they were divided. Some came across the Savannah River while others sailed from Savannah to Beaufort. The troops land in Beaufort and formed up for their march through SC. While in Beaufort, the Union troops camped on one side of the river and the Confederate troops camped on the other side. The Union troops were closer to the ocean. This was suppose to happen at Grays Hill. Possible explaination of the name??
