Subject: Giles Chapman family of Newberry Co SC
From: Edgar Taylor
Date: August 09, 1998
I am trying to determine if there is a link of Joseph Chapman - a
carpenter or ships carpenter and merchant who died in Charleston about
1820 - with the Giles Chapman family of Newberry Co. I note that a
grandson of Giles Chapman and son of Samuel Chapman was named Joseph.
Other researchers have not had much to offer about this Joseph Chapman.
Joseph named a son Samuel which lends some possibility that he was
related to the Giles Chapman family. Family tradition says that
Joseph Chapman served in the Rev War and that his wife Nancy Fleming
Chapman received a widows pension for this service. I have found no
Joseph Chapman in the published abstracts with the right info who
served in the Rev War. I suspect too that Joseph would have been
too young to serve but have not been able to dispute for sure the
family tradition.
If you are familiar with the Giles Chapman family I would appreciate
your help with info on Joseph Chapman of the Giles Chapman family.
Thanks. Ed T of PGH
