UPSHAW-HARDMAN CEMETERY
located in Elbert Co Ga
1.1/2 miles on hwy 72 east of intersection of GA St Hwy 17 & 72 turn
north on dirt road off hw 72 over bridge over Seaboard railroad tracks;
turn left. go 300 yds to fork in road,bear right and proceed to Georgia
Power Co right of way.proceed on foot northeast along right of way appox
1/4 mile cross small branch of Doves Creek. bear due east into woods
approx 200 yds to area of cemetery which is covered with perewinkle and
honeysuckle
commet there are 4 graves together at one location.and two graves with
unmarked stones,about 40' North of these. the graves of M.C.Upshaw and J
Hardman are of loose rocks piled about 2 ft high. of the two unmarked
graves here one is loose rocks piled about 2ft high and the other loose
clay bricks piled about 2ft high. both are larger than the 2 graves
which are marked. suspect to be graves of Amy Gatewood Upshaw and her
husband John Upshaw who died in 1826 & 1834 respectively
M.C.Upshaw was born Jan 3 1808(diseast) June 1838
