National Genealogical Society Quarterly June 1976 vol  64 no 2 compiled by  
Peter Wilson Coldham.  jACOB GRADWELL IN SOUTH CAROLINA, 1699. This will 
takes the form of a promissory note written by Jacob Gradwell 24 May 1699 to 
Edward Hoole for L11.10s.. in Lyon dollars.   It was signed on board the Pink 
Preston, Captaain John Crowther, then at anchor in Cooper River, South 
Carolina, but due to sail to Barbados, Jacob Gradwell asked that if he died, 
his goods (Listed) should be sold and the residue of the money raised to be 
remitted to Mr. Thomas Gradwell of Preston,Lancashire, England. In October 
1699 John Crowther of At. Mary's , Whitechapel, Middlesex, mariner, and 
Thomas Molyneux of St. Martin's   Outwich, London,  Esq.,, appeared 
personally to testify to Jacob Gradwell's handwriting, and the form of will 
was proved 25 October 1699 by Edward Hoole. (PRO: PCC 156/1699)
