CAROLINA.   Will of Samuel Grove of St. Helena  Parish , Granville  County, 
South Carolina, merchant, dated 10 February 1776, intending shortly to depart 
to England. To my mother Sarah Gove of the City of London , L 1000  current. 
To sister Mary, now married to one Williams and living in or near the City of 
Gloucester, and to sister Ann Groves of the city of London, L 1000  current 
each. To son-in-law John Kean L 1000 current. Executors are to sell my estate 
to meet bequests. Of the residue, half is to be paid to my wife Jane Grove 
and the other half placed at interest for my daughter Jane Grove until she is 
21. Executors my wife Jane Grove, William Burrows of Charles Town, attorney 
at law, Thomas Shubrick of the same, Esq., William Jones of Savannah ,Georgia 
attorney at law, and my son-in-law John Kean. Witnessed  Darius Dalton, 
Francis Wolforston, James Dalton. On 12 May 1777 Jane Grove of South Carolina 
appeared personally, now of the Parish of St. Mary, Islington, Middlesex, 
widow. The testator died 20 February  1776  and she received his will in May 
or June following enclosed in a letter from John Kean, her son by aformer 
marriage. Will proved 15 May 1777 (PRO: PCC 214/1777)
