Glenna,

Do you have anything on Alfred Bryant (Briant) b. 28 Dec 1809, Spartanburg Co, South Carolina d.1896, Carroll Co, Tennessee. m. Polly (Mary) Stone 18 Jan 1831. I show 10 children. Also have Briants in TN.

Do you have anything on Giles Josephus Harvey b. 1834, SC m. Eliza Ann Christy, or Moses B. Harvey b. 1811, SC m. Nancy Van Dyke Stone 1833. I have several more Harvey's listed on my database, but they are in TN and Ark.

The Harvey's and Bryants (Briant) are not my direct line, but married into my Stone line. My stones are from Spartanburg, SC.

Today I spent some time transcribing into my notes excerpts from:

Testimony taken by U.S. CONGRESS JOINT SELECT COMMITTEE to inquire into THE
CONDITION OF AFFAIRS IN THE LATE INSURRECTIONARY STATES: SOUTH CAROLINA
Volume I

This testimony, which involved Spartanburg citizens recollections of KKK
activity in 1871, mentioned a General Bates several times. Can anyone tell me
who is was? Confederate or Union? I am curious to know how he fits into this
picture.

Also, if anyone out there is kin to Reuben Briant/Bryant (Jr.), the Harveys or
the Vandivers of the Spartanburg area, I'll be glad to share my typed copy
w/them. It is rather lengthy, but interesting.

Regards,
Glenna Bryant Kinard
