Subject: FINEY-FINLEY in SC Council Journal for 1765 From: Neil & Ruth Jaeger Date: March 21, 2001 I sent to the SC Archives asking for a copy of two petitions and plat maps - for Owen FINEY and James FINLEY -- as listed on pg 262 of the book "Petitions for Land from the SC Council Journals, Vol V: 1757-1765" by Brent H. Holcomb. Since I do not live in SC, I paid a $15 fee for this. I received two copies from them: 1) a copy of page 601 of the Journal of His Majesty's Council for 9-3-1765, which lists both Owen FINEY and James FINDLAY ….. and 2) one page of Col. Plat S, Vol II, pg. 376 #2, Frame #380 showing the 100 acres of land for James FINDLEY "in Craven County lying and being on a branch of fair forrest called Dining Creek between the fork of broad and Saluda(?) Rivers." I received no plat map for Owen FINEY who is listed on the Council Journal for "300 acres on Waters of Savannah on (or?) Long Canes." Can anyone tell me anymore about where this might be located? What county? My gr.gr.grandfather was Owen FINDLEY/FINLEY. He was born about 1796 in SC. His younger brother was born in Edgefield, so Owen may have also been born there. He was at estate sales in Abbeville in mid 1820's, and one of his brother's sons was born in Edgefield in 1830's. We are trying to determine the parents of Owen and his brothers Charles, Ed, Evan and Benjamin. I am grasping at straws in thinking perhaps the Owen FINEY listed in the Council Journal might be, in fact, Owen FINLEY, and possibly a link to my Owen FINLEY's line. Would appreciate any suggestions ... help ...insight anyone might have on this. Thank you so much!
