Subject: FAQ: -L and -D Mail Modes From: Steve Coker Date: November 10, 2000 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION: What's the difference between the SCRoots-L and SCRoots-D list modes? RESPONSE: -L means List mode. -D means Digest mode. In List mode (-L) you get each message that is sent to the list as soon as it is received by the list server. So, in List mode you get each individual email message. In List mode the messages include the automatic Forum taglines but do not include the Digest header. In List mode you get more email more often, but they are typically much smaller in size than the Digests. In Digest mode (-D) you receive a compilation of messages sent in one email. Digests are sent either when a pre-determined amount of time has passed since the last Digest was mailed (e.g. 72 hours), or when a pre-set Digest email size threshold has been reached (e.g. 32k). The Digests include an automatic Digest header but do not include the automatic Forum taglines. In Digest mode you get fewer email messages less often, but they are usually larger in size than the List mode messages.
