My name is Lawrence E. Harrison and I am attempting to do a family tree
to leave for my son. I live in Accokeek, Maryland, a suburb of

I am requesting any info regarding the Choice Family of Sumter Co.,S.
Carolina. The earliest reference to the family that I have may be my
great-grandfather Espy Choice, Sr. My grandfather may have been named
after him, but lived most of his life under the name Damon or Daymond
Harrison, Jr. (his stepfather's given name).His mother was married twice
and was named Sarah Ann or Sarah Jane (I'm not sure about her surname
prior to marriage, but a cousin told me that it could have been Spain or
Spann). That same cousin mentioned that Espy Choice, Sr. was also known
as Sharper Choice. My grandfather also thought that his birth year was
1900, but my mother discovered that he had actually been born 3 years
prior to 1900. This information was archived somewhere in Kansas, I
believe. The Census from 1900 may be the reason that my grandfather used
that date as his birthday. I have been told that my family decided to
take the name Choice when, at Emancipation, they were given a choice as
to what they could do, what they could be called, where they could go,
etc. Other names that I have been given as relatives of the Choice
Family are Browns, Durants, Harrisons, and Dixons. Any assistance will
be greatly appreciated.
