But there is also intellectual honesty involved.

Well said, Marie. We must acknowledgment the intellectual property rights of
others and not forget that even if it it very, very easy to copy and paste
with the technology that we have today, if its on the web, someone put it
there and it belongs to them.

I gained a lot of insight from the class that I took through the school of
Library Science at USC. Here is another tidbit from my notes for everybody
interested in the subject:

Section 107 of the Copyright law allows limited use of otherwise protected
work, including the reproduction of portions of that work, without the
copyright owner's approval. Fair use include the use of work "for purposes
such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship or research."

The fair use doctrine includes four basic factors to be considered:
1. The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is for
non-profit educational purposes.
2. The nature of the copyrighted work.
3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the
copyrighted work as a whole.
4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the
copyrighted work.
