RESEARCHERS:

Looking through all this interesting information inspires me to ask you to
rejoice with me and also to help me if you can:

After months of searching I have finally located my g-g-g grandfather's
medical degree:

DR. SAMUEL EDWIN NORTON (1816-1877) graduated from the Philadelphia College
of Physicians in 1859. This is now part of the University of Pennsylvania.

BUT he was BORN in either Williamsburg or Georgetown Counties and I STILL
cannot locate the death notice or burial place of either of his parents
(whose names I do NOT know but who would have BOTH died ca 1818-1820. He was
the youngest of four children then went to live with relatives (probably his
sister ANNE NORTON RENTZ's family)until he grew up and married Julia Justina
Alston of Halifax County, NC. They had children in the Georgetown area and
removed to Montgomery AL abbout 1850 which is WHY I could not find his
medical degree in SC.

ANY help finding the elder NORTONS of SOUTH CAROLINA would be GREATLY
appreciated. I realize many records were lost during the WBTS but they have
to be BURIED somewhere. They were Episcopalians, and in fact, during the war,
Dr. Norton preached (as a layman, I assume, as I am sure he never attended
seminary) at ST. JOHNS EPISCOPAL CHURCH in Montgomery. But where IN SC his
PARENTS could be buried, I don't know.

 Thanks for anything useful,
