Subject: Drawdy-POWG-3 From: gslat Date: December 19, 1999 DRAWDY, THOMAS L. 1820-1896 IRWIN Thomas L. Drawdy, the oldest son of Daniel Drawdy (Vol. 1), was born in Irwin County, March 2, 1820. He was twice married. His first wife was Temperance Gibbs of Irwin County. She died a few months later, childless, and he then married Martha ("Patsy") Young, Sept 4, 1842; she was born 1822 in Jefferson County, daughter of Jacob Young (Vol. 1). By this marriage eight children were born: 1. Elizabeth b. 1845, burned to death In girlhood. 2. Daniel Wayne b. 1848, m. Ursula Frazier, dau. of John Frazier of Louisiana. 3. James Cooper b. 1850, died young. 4. Jacob L. b. 1953, m. Elizabeth Brantley, dau. of Thomas of Telfair County. 5. Emma b. 1855, died in young womanhood, single. 6. Georgia Ann b. 1858, m. John Hicks. 7. Thomas Napoleon b. 1860, m. Nora Allen. 8. Amancts b. 1866, m. Thomas Williams. About 1848, Mr. Drawdy moved to Nassau County, Fla., where he lived four or five years, then returning to Irwin County for a brief stay. He was there in April, 1853, when he served as a grand juror. About 1855, he migrated with his family westward, locating in Anderson County, Texas, where he lived and farmed nearly twenty years near the mouth of the Leon River. Then he moved to Louisiana for a brief stay, thence to Arkansas and then to near St. Joseph, Missouri. While living in Missouri, his daughter Emma died and was buried at Wellsboro, Mo. He decided to return east and move to Florida whence most of his brothers had already moved. He lived on the Caloosahatchie River several years; his wife died in 1886 while living there. He spent his last years in Lake County where he died in 1896 and was buried in the Drawdy Cemetery at Umatilla. DRAWDY, WILLIAM. 1827-1888 TIFT William Drawdy was born in Irwin County, Oct. 15, 1827, a son of Daniel Drawdy (Vol. I). He was married there Nov. 12, 1845, to Miss MaryAnn Wiggins, born March 9, 1827. To them were born nine children: 1. Dory Ann b. Aug. 30, 1946, m. S. L. Roberts, Jan. 2, 1872. 2. Amy b. June 14, 1848, m. John V. Mitchell, June 14, 1876. 3. Daniel S. b. Oct. 7. 1851, m. Belle Mitchell, Oct. 14, 1874. 4. William C. b. Oct. 10, 1853, m. Emma Crowder, Jan. 22, 1895. 5. Emma b. Aug. 24, 1855, m. James Mitchell, Oct. 2, 1875. 6. Mollie M. b. Nov. 6, 1857, m. Eugene Golden. 7. James B. b. July 3, 1960, never m. Died 1880. 9. Victoria b. Feb. 3, 1864, m. B. R. Williams, June 2, 1892. 9. Walton A. b. Mar. 14, 1870, m. Ist. Willie Stephens, Jan. 16, 1893; 2nd. Ada Pallett, May 15, 1911. William Drawdy lived in Irwin (now Tift) County until about 1858 when he removed to the new County of Echols. He enlisted in a Florida calvary company in the Confederate Army and served two or three years. During the war or soon after, he removed to Lake County, Florida, where he continued to live until his death, Sept. 9, 1888. He and his wife lie buried in the Drawdy Cemetery about five miles east of Orlando, Fla. Census Refs: Irwin, 1850; Echols, 1860. DRAWDY, CORNELIUS (NEIL). 1838-1886 CHARLTON Cornelius (commonly called "Neil") Drawdy was born March 3, 1838, in Irwin (now Ben Hill) County, son of Daniel Drawdy (Vol.1). He moved with his parents in 1843 to the portion of Irwin now Tift County, thence about 1852 to Nassau County, Fla. He was married in Nassau (now Baker) County, Oct. 27, 1860, to Charity Roe (Rowe), daughter of Edward and Eliza Roe of that county. She was born in Camden County, May 20, 1840. To them were born ten children, viz: 1. Walter B. b. 1862, m. Ist, Nettle Green of Columbia Co. Fla., 2nd. Minnie Strickland, May 14, 1892. 2. Barley Jones b. 1865, died single 1885. Buried near Live Oak, Fla. 3. Emily (Emma) b. 1868, m. Moses Bessant. 4. Ada b. 1870, m. James S. Thomas, Dec. 18, 1894, Living 1960, at Groveland, Fla. 5. John J. b. 1872, m. Emma Smith of Sanderson, Fla. 6. Edwin b. 1874, m. Lavert Strickland. 7. Neal b. 1876, m. Ollie Barber, dau. of Cbas. F. 8. Dell b. 1878, m. Effie York. 9. Mary Frances b. 1879, m. Charles Williams. 0. Essle b. 1882, m. S. G. Wr.kerson. Mr. Drawdy lived in Nassau County until about 1867 when he moved to Charlton County, Ga., and settled on the St. Marys River near Moniac, where he owned two or three farms, He sold out and moved to eastern Echols County but after a year (1880) spent there he moved to the 1141st district of Clinch County. After a year spent there, the family moved to Ousley station in Lowndes County. Two years later they moved to Suwannee County, Fla., and settled near Live Oak, where the son Harley died. Their last move was to Benton in Columbia County, Fla., where he bought a farm and lived until his death in April, 1886. This place was fifteen miles north of Lake City. He was buried at Old Hopewell Church in Hamilton County. His widow survived and reared the minor children to maturity, and died in October, 1906. She was buried in the Roe cemetery near McClenny, Fla. Neil Drawdy enlisted in 1862 in Co. "W', lst Florida Cavalry regiment, Confederate Army. Not liking their officers, he and his brothers, Smith (called "Dade") and Luke Drawdy, deserted in Tennessee according to company rolls, and they enlisted in Maj.
