DRAWDY, Daniel 1799-1863 IRWIN
DANIEL DRAWDY was born in South Carolina, February 3, 1799, and was a son
of Daniel Drawdy, R.S., and a grandson of Daniel and Elizabeth Drawdy who
moved about 1758 from Augusta County, Virginia, to South Carolina. The
father of the subject moved to Georgia in 1800 and settled in Tattnall
County about the time of its creation, and it was there that Daniel grew
up. He married in 1819, Miss Amy (Ama) Walker, daughter of James Walker,
R.S., of Irwin County. To them were born twelve children, of whom eleven
were boys; all of the twelve lived to be grown and married. They were:
1. Thomas L. b. 1820, m. (1) Temperance Gibbs; (2) Patsy Young.
2. James b. 1822, m. Dora Ann Fletcher, daughter of Joseph.
3. Daniel b. 1825, m. Rebecca Jernigan, April 1, 1847.
4. William b. 1827, m. Mary Ann Wiggins, November 12, 1945.
5. John J. b. 1830, m. (1) Elizabeth Patten; (2) Rosanna Touchton; (3) Mrs.
Angie Dampier Gibbs.
6. Mary Ann b. 1833, m. Jesse J. Sumner, (2) Levi Drawdy, Jr.
7. Samuel b. 1835, m. Rebecca Drawdy, daughter of Levi, Sr.
8. Cornelius b. 1838, m. Charity Roe of Nassau Co. Florida.
9. Luke b. 1840, m. (1) Mary Crawford, daughter of Thomas; (2) Martha
Howard, daughter of Matthew; (3) Sara Ann, daughter of R. B. Thomas.
10. Smith ("Dade") b. 1844, m. Amanda Howard, sister of Martha.
11. Hezekiah b. 1846, m. Victoria Hartley of Duval Co., Florida.
12. George b. 1848, m. Emilly Thompson of Charlton County.
Daniel Drawdy and his wife's father, James Walker, were among the first
settlers of Irwin County, appearing there in 1820 Census. Daniel Drawdy
served as a petit juror at the first term of Irwin Superior Court in 1820.
For some years he lived in the First land.district of Irwin County, near
Bowen's Mill, in present Ben Hill County, but sold out and moved to the
Third District about 1830, where he drew Lot No. 57 in the land lottery,
and lived there until December 8, 1843, when he sold out to James Gibbs
(deed book "C," page 387). He then moved to the 6th District of Irwin
County (territory now in Tift, southwest of Tifton) and bought lots 430 and
431, and lived there until December 15, 1851, when he sold out to Jacob
Hall. The next few years were spent in what is now Berrien County. In
the1860 Census, he and his wife were living in Echols County with the
daughter and her husband, Levi Drawdy, Jr. The next year he and his wife
moved to the lower part of Charlton County where they lived until 1863.
Mr. Drawdy died in 1863 while on a visit to St. Augustine, Florida, to see
some of his sons held in Federal prison there. He was buried in St.
Augustine. Mrs. Drawdy spent her widowhood with her daughter and died in
1903 at the age of 99 years at the daughter's home at Kissimmee, Florida.
She was buried there.
Mr. and Mrs. Drawdy were baptized August 12, 1833, into Brushy Creek
Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County, at that time known as "Dorminy's
Meeting-house." On May 3, 1846, he was excluded for drunkenness. His wife
was dismissed by letter September 24, 1859, and joined a church in Nassau
County, Florida.
Of the eleven sons, Thomas L., William, Cornelius (Neal), Luke, Smith,
Hezekiah and George all became residents of Florida; John J., moved to
Clinch County in 1869 and died there in 1920; Daniel was assassinated in
1859 at his home in Berrien County; Samuel was stabbed to death about 1858
in Berrien County; James died in Irwin County in 1848; and Luke, the last
surviving brother, died at his home in LaCrosse, Alachua County, Florida,
October 1st, 1934, age 94 years.

DRAWDY, William 1790-1857 WAYNE
WILLIAM DRAWDY was born in South Carolina in 1790, and was a son of Daniel
Drawdy, R.S., and a brother of Daniel Drawdy (q.v.). His wife Mary was
born in 1791 in South Carolina, but her maiden name so far has not been
learned. According to his will dated 1855, they had then been married 45
years, making the year of their marriage 1810. Their children were:
1. James C. b. 1816, m. Elizabeth Harper, daughter of James.
2. William Thomas b. 1816, m. Eliza Coursey of Tattnall County.
3. Susannah b. 18__, m. ______Welch.
4. Elizabeth C. b. 18__, m. Colwell.
5. Mary Ann b. 18__, m. ______ Middleton.
6. George W. b. 1825, m. Nancy______.
It appears that William Drawdy and wife moved to Tattnall County soon after
marriage and resided there some years. He was a petit juror there as early
as November, 1814, and a lieutenant in the militia of the 40th District,
1817-1819. In 1819 he applied for land lottery draws, and was then
residing in Capt. Overstreet's District, and was allowed two draws for his
wife and children. The 1820 Census shows the family in McIntosh County.
Shortly after, they moved to Wayne County where they afterwards lived.
Mr. Drawdy was lst lieutenant of the militia in the 33rd district, Wayne
County, 1824-1826, and was Captain in the same district, 1826-1832. He was
Justice of Peace in the 28th District, 1825-1829, and in the 383rd
District, 1830-1837. He served as one of the Justices of Wayne Inferior
Court, 1845-1853. He was Justice of Peace of the 333rd district,
1855-1856.
Mr. Drawdy was a soldier in the Georgia Militia in the War of 1812, also in
the Indian Wars.
His will dated February 26, 1855, was probated December 2, 1857. The
home-place on the north half of Lot 161, 3rd Land District Wayne County,
was given the wife along with all personal property, for her lifetime.
William T. and James C. Drawdy were named executors of the will.
Note: A deed appears of record in Laurens County from William Drawdy and
James Drawdy, his brother, both of Laurens County, to Sherod Hutson, dated
October 17, 1811, conveying Lot 351, 12th district, for $300.00 (see deed
book "B", page 63). This would indicate William Drawdy lived in Laurens
before moving to Tattnall County.

lived on Little Saltketcher Creek on the Barnwell-Colleton line in South

home. She was survived by her husband and ten children. About a year
later Mr. Drawdy married Miss Dilly Ann (properly, Delilah Ann) Hinson,

Levi Drawdy and family, on moving to this section, bought land on the west
side of the Alapaha River in present Lanier County, and lived there until
his death July 16, 1881. He was buried at Union Church.
He served as a private in 1838 in the Indian War, in Capt. Jesse Carter's
independent troop of Lowndes County militia. He and his wife Rebecca were
members of Union Church and were baptized into its membership June 7, 1834,
and died members.
Mr. Drawdy left a will dated July 25, 1864, which was probated August 25,
1881, in Lowndes Court of Ordinary. His son, Daniel, was designated as
executor. His home place and farm, Lot of Land No. 389 in 11th district of
Lowndes, was divided among the wife and surviving children: Daniel, Levi,
