Beth, I am gslat. I think there is a misunderstanding here on my very
earlier post about the Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia.
Ref the died young, single, etc.
I am putting all 10 volumes into FTM and connecting the families.
"Older researchers" does not pertain to any of us today or the age of the
searcher. The information for these books was being collected as early as
1916.

I have noticed in very many cases where a 'died single, never married, etc"
comment has proven to be wrong. I have notced that some did not list
baseborn children, nor their mothers or fathers. Yet it comes out later on
in the books.
Some deny that granpa was a deserter or a traitor, yet when I see that, I
dig. (Two in my line, 1 Westberry, 1 Bennett)
I will assume that the "older researchers" had different morals than ours
of today. Hide the skeletons. But why put down a comment like died young,
etc, when it should have been left blank or listed as unknown if they
couldn't find any info on that person.
There are too many cases thruout the volumes for it to have been a simple
research mistake.

I hope I have clarified that and not offended you.

Charles

Obviously the remark about using the comment "died young" is a
face-saving device used by "older researcher" was directed to me.
The only reason I used that phrase was that the two young Bryan(t) men
mentione -one died at younger than 3, the other about 20 and never had
any known descendants- I was trying to save everyone's time and I
doubted anyone would be interested since there were no descendants from
these young men. If anyone really wants to know I can look up their
exact death dates, I have them filed in a notebook. They are buried in
Bigbee Cemetery in Greene County, Ala. As for the "older researcher"
comment, I am 58 and will be 59 the 7th of this month. I suppose that
means I have one foot in the grave. Ha!!
I am finding out one needs a really thick skin to survive on this list.
I suppose I can give and take with the best of them. I am relatively
new to this list. I know I can count on several to let me know when I
make "feeble" mistakes. Thanks,
Beth Ann Spraberry
