May have some forthcoming information on the Dewalt family of Newberry...
my first cousin just bought the old Dewalt family home on Main Street week
before last...it is a beautiful old home with app. 5000 sq feet....there
is a widow's walk on top, pocket doors to the LR and parlors, two beautiful
bay windows, etc....the home was built in 1832....the original heart pine
floors are intact and one of the original outbuildings is still standing..
the "outhouse" is still on the premises...the original detached kitchen has
been torn down....when tornadoes swept through Newberry about 12 years ago,
the house was severely damaged...it originally faced main street...after the
tornadoes, a new foundation was built and it was turned to face Walnut
St....the house needs extensive rennovations....if you give me some additional
information on the Dewalts that you have, I'll be sure and let you  know as
she finds out more about the original owners....we are pretty sure that the
Dewalt family lived in the house first, until around the turn of the century
when it was bought by the O B Mayer family....Ginger
