Can anyone help me with this family?

I am looking for the family DesBrosses. They were French Hugenots who,
as the story goes, came to NY from Europe. Two or three brothers. One
brother stayed in NYC and became a merchant very influential in the
revolutionary war. So influential that there is a street named after
him.

Another brother or brothers went to PA and from there at least one of
them sailed down the east coast to Charleston. Legend has it that my
ancestor was born on the boat. The family settled in Charleston and one
of the children grew up and became a banker and was there during the
great Charleston earthquake, but i don't know the year.

Another of the children (the one suposedly born on the boat) went to
Abbeville, and there married a Thomas woman. I am not sure of all of
this. Just family stories.

However, in 1914, my great grandmother's first cousin went to Charleston
and got information as to their great grandfather and Uncle Ben. This
first cousin wrote a letter to my g grandmother stating this. However,
the name was originally DesBrosses. This cousin used the name DeBrosse.
My family used the name Bross. My gg grandfather was named George W.
Bross. I think, perhaps, that George's father was named Francis or
Francois. Francis being the one born on the boat.

Thanks,
Nick
