If the death certificate is for a person who died between 1915 and I believe 1940, you can obtain a copy of the certificate
(uncertified) from the SC State Archives for a rather small fee. I believe you can call them and order. There is a link to them on
my homepage below.

:Elizabeth,
:
:I, too, sent off for some death certificates in South Carolina, only to
:have my check returned about 3 weeks after I had done so. I gave them
:the name, month and year that they had died.
:They in turn sent me forms back that I had to fill out stating what
:county they died in, what my relationship to the deceased was, etc. I
:was given the information of a deceased by another person and I have no
:idea what county the person died in-I was hoping to find that out.
:
:When I called their office to ask about what information was needed, I
:was not told that I had to give them the county and my relationship.
:In one case, I am trying to see if I am even related to the deceased.
:This has been my experience.
