DAVIS, JOSEPH W., JR.	1870-1936 	PIERCE

Joseph William Davis, Jr. was born on June 23, 1870 about six miles north 
of Offerman in Pierce County, Georgia. He was the son of Joseph William 
Davis, Sr. (Vol. V111) and his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Chancey. On 
September 25, 1890, Joseph married Nancy Jane Griner, born on August 4, 
1875. Her parents were Elias Allen Griner (b. 8/2/1849, d. 12/12/1902) and 
Miriam (Winn) Griner (b. 9/25/1858, d. 1/27/1926).
Joseph and Nancy had the following children:

1. Allen William	b. 10/6/1891, m. Maude Foster, 8/5/1910.
	d. 2/23/1987.	Both bur. Patterson Cem.
2. Benjamin Amos	b. 7/12/1892,	He disappeared about 1928.
3. Jasper M.	b. 9/9/1895, m. Madde Allen, 12/17/1916. Both
	d. 2/14/1951.	bur. Oakland Cem. Waycross, Ga
4. Mavis Elizabeth	b. 12/25/1898,	Died young.
5. Leonard E.	b. 2/15/1900, m. Julia Winn, 3/22/1916.
	d. 5/30/1978.	Leonard died of a heart attack. Both bur. Fernandina, Fla.
6. Willie Matthew	b. 12/5/1903, m.	Never married.
	d. 6/17/1923.	Willie bur. Mll Creek Cem.
7. Lois	b. 7/20/1905.	Died young.
8. Joe Lewis	b. 7/20/1906,	He died from drinking potash,
	d. 3/3/1908.	bur. Mil Creek Cem.
9. Virgie Melissa	b. 3/26/1909, m. 1) Ben Lyons, 12/14/1924.
	d. 1/21/1995. 2) John Quinn.
10. Susie Matilda	b. 6/9/1911, m. 1) Bennie Guest.
	d. 4/26/1977.	2) Keller Roberts. Susie d.of heart failure, bur. Rehobeth.
11. infant (girl)	b. 11/9/1913, 	d.11/9/1913.
12. James Claude	b. 12/19/1916, m. Mary Elizabeth Rooks.
	d. 2/15/1980.	James died of cancer and heart failure.

Joseph and Nancy were members of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in 
Patterson, Georgia Joseph was a carpenter by trade. He liked to fish and 
play the mandolin.
Joseph Davis died on May 10, 1936 and his wife, Nancy (Giiner) Davis died 
almost two months later on July 6, 1936. They are buried in the Davis lot 
in the Mill Creek Cemetery located about five miles northwest of Offerman.

DAVIS, LEWIS CARTHRA	1877-1954	PIERCE, 	MERIWETHER

Lewis Carthra Davis was born on November 17, 1877, about six miles north of 
Offerman, Pierce County, Georgia. He was the fourth child, and third son, 
of Joseph William and Elizabeth (Chancey) Davis (Vol VIll).
Lewis married Fanny Beatrice Fowler, on October 20, 1907, in Greenville, 
Georgia. Lewis, Sr. was building homes for railroad employees in Meriwether 
County when he met Beatrice.
They had the following children:

1. Lewis Carthra, Jr. 	b. 7/27/1908, m. Sarah H. Owen, I I /19/193 8.
2. Mildred Kathleen	b. 12/18/1910, m.	1) Royal Boynton. 2) Randal Hayes, d. 
10/24/1993.
3. Julia Elizabeth	b. 8/1/1916, m.	Reuben Ernest Griffin, 8/14/1937.
4. James Arthur Hubert	b. 10/28/1918, m.	Mary Florine Sinclair,
	d. 3/30/1965.	12/14/1941.

Lewis was a building contractor and the City Housing Inspector for 
Manchester, Georgia. He also did contracting work on the first "Little W  
hite House" at Warm Springs, Georgia. Lewis died on September 11, 1954, 
From a heart attack. A stroke took Beatrice's life on February 16, 1970. 
They are buried in the city cemetery in Manchester, Georgia.
