DAVIS, MARK	1833-1863 		COFFEE

Mark Davis was born April 7, 1833, and lived in Ware (now Coffee) County, 
and was the son of Stafford Davis (Vol.111). His wife was Penelope 
"Nellie", born in 1834, daughter of David Fender (Vol.I). They had four 
children:

1. Elizabeth	b. 1853,	m. James J. Varnadoe, 11/23/1873.
2. Mary	b. 1860,	m. Barney W. Tanner.
3. Penny	b. 1861,	m. unknown.
4. David	b. 1862,	m. unknown.

Mark Davis was farming on one of his father's farms in Coffee County, when 
the Civil War began in 1861. He enlisted September 5, 1862 in Company "C", 
50th Georgia Regiment, a Coffee County Regiment. He died in the service 
June 18, 1863 in General Hospital #19, Richmond, Virginia, and was buried 
there. The widow died about 1910 in Coffee County, Georgia.


DAVIS, WARREN	1841-1909 		CLINCH

Warren Davis was born March 4, 1841, in Georgia, a son of John and Lucretia 
Davis of Ware and Appling Counties. He married Malinda Pittman, born in 
1853, a daughter of Rev. Travis Pittman. Warren and Malinda had eleven 
children:

1. Travis W.	b. 6/20/1871, m. Serena Pittman, dau. of Sam. d. 1/10/1942.
2. James M.	b.	11/9/1872, m. Mary Bishop of Fla. d. 9/6/1940.
3. Recy	b.	1875, m. never married.
4. Annie	b.	1877, m. Thomas Lane.
5. Istial A.	b.	1878, m. Lizzie Byrd, dau. of William.
6. Eli W.	b. 12/10/1879, m. unknown. d. 1941.
7. Johnny	b. 4/3/1880,	died young. d. 2/22/1917.
8. Henry C.	b.	1882, m. Nettie Goodwin of Waresboro, Ga.
9. Minnie	b.	1883, m. Ruel Griffin of Hoboken, Ga.
10. Linnie	b.	1885, m. James A. Fullwood, of Ware Co.
11. Lonnie	b.	1887, m. Dollie Mae Kight, dau. of LE.

Warren Davis moved from near Ruskin to Clinch County and settled on Lot No. 
403 in the 12th district. He was a Private in Company "K", 26th Georgia 
Regiment, CSA, October 1, 1861. He mustered out March 31, 1862. He enlisted 
as a Private in Company "G', 4th Georgia Cavalry May 1, 1862. Last roll on 
file June 30, 1863 showed him present. No later record is found. Warren 
Davis died July 7,1909. His wife Malinda, died May 6, 1929. They are both 
buried at Antioch Church.

DAVIS, DANIEL D.	1814-ca.1869 	APPLING - WAYNE

Daniel D. Davis was born in 1814 in Georgia. He was the son of James Davis 
(Vol.VII) and his first wife, Mary Burgess. She was the daughter of Moses 
Burgess of McIntosh County. Daniel was the grandson of Arthur Davis, (RS) 
(Vol.V). He married Rebecca Hall, born 1811 in Georgia. She was the 
daughter of Lewis Hall, Jr. (RS) (Vol.1) and Nancy Colley Hall. They had 
the following children according to the 1850 Census of Appling County, 
Georgia.

1. Martha	b.	1834.
2. James	b.	1835, d. 6/5/1862, killed in C.S.A.
3. Samantha	b.	1838.
4. Jehu	b. 	1842.
5. Eliza	b.	1843, m. ?? Sikes.
6. Herodias Lititiann	b. 8/25/1844, m. William George, Jr. d. 1916. 
(Vol.VIII), 2/13/1862.
7. Theresa M.	b.	1846. m. Leonard George, 	1/10/1869.
8. Olive	b.	1847, m. William J. Manning, 6/3/1869.
9. Covington	b.	1849, 	no further information.

According to information in Judge Huxford's files, Daniel was a 2nd Lt. in 
456 District, Appling County 1835-1838; Capt. 1838-1846, Ensign 1846. The 
son, James E. Davis, was a Private in Company "I", 27th Georgia Regiment, 
C.S.A., 9/10/1861. He died in Richmond, Virginia Hospital June 5, 1862 and 
was buried in Hollywood Cemetery. Tattnall County, Georgia Deed Book ABCD, 
Page 195, September 6, 1848, shows that Daniel D. Davis, his wife, Rebecca 
Davis, her brothers Seaborn Hall and James Hall, relinquish their interest 
in the estate of Lewis Hall, their father.
Daniel D. died about 1869. Rebecca died about 1851 or 1852. It is not known 
where they are buried.

DAVIS, IRA MANCY	1877-1953 	PIERCE-WAYNE

Ira Mancy Davis was born April 22, 1877, the son of Joseph William Davis 
(Vol.VIII) and Elizabeth Chancey. He married Hattie Verbelie Roberson who 
was born November 9, 1882. She was the daughter of Richardson Randolph 
Roberson and Nellie Bennett. To Ira and Hattie the following nine children 
were born:

1. Lonnie	b. 3/6/1902, m. Isabelle Wasdin, b. 1/6/1905. d. 10/13/1975.
2. Beulah Mae	b. 4/3/1905, m. Duncan C. Mixon, 4/4/1926,
	d. 1/7/1937.	b. 12/10/1902, d. 8/13/1988.
3. Alva Mildred	b. 1/24/1908, m. Lester Ray Green, 11/20/1928, b. 
7/23/1894, d. 8/15/1980.
4. Joseph Richard	b.8/22/1910, m. Susie Mae Barber, 3/16/1929,
	d. 12/31/1947.	b. 6/8/1909,
5. Dorothy Gertrude 	b. 4/21/1912, m. Oliver B. Walker, 8/16/1939, 	b. 
12/17/1919.
6. Lovin Curtis	b. 4/9/1915, m. Grace Walker, 3/15/1935,
	d. 7/14/1947.	b. 2/25/1917.
7. Everett	b. 10/10/1917, m. Lorene Lee, 11/13/1937, b. 7/17/1919, d. 
2/5/1987.
8. Iris Verbelia	b. 12/15/1919, m. Terrell C. Howard, 	m. 10/23/1936, b.

9. Clara Christine	b. 3/28/1925, d. 7/27/1929.

Mr. Davis was a farmer and his farm was located in Wayne County, five miles 
west of Screven, Georgia. He bought 42 acres of land lot 336 in 1903.
Mr. Davis died October 28, 1953 and Mrs. Davis died July 15, 1954. They are 
buried in the Mill Creek Church Cemetery Pierce County, Georgia. The graves 
are marked.

DAVIS, JAMES MADISON 	1816-ca.1863 	PIERCE

James Madison Davis was born in McIntosh County, the son of James Davis and 
Mary Burgess (Vol.VII). Mary was the daughter of Moses Burgess of McIntosh 
County. James Madison was married first to Rebecca Carter. To them were 
born:

1. Sarah Ann	b.	1837, m. unknown.
2. Elizabeth	b.	1839. m. Wiley Herndon.
3. James C.	b.	1840. m. ??? Bennett.
4. Joseph W.	b. 1/7/1842, m. Elizabeth "Betsy" Chancey,
	(vol.VIII)	d. 7/3/1915.	dau. of Wm. and Marantha 	Thomas Chancey.
5. Tempy	b.	1846. m. ??? Girven.
6. Rachel	b.	1847. m. unknown.
7. Daniel	b.	1850. m. unknown.

Apparently Rebecca Carter Davis died after the birth of Daniel. James 
Madison Davis then married Nancy Carter (possibly a sister or cousin of his 
first wife, Rebecca). She was born in 1830. To Nancy and James M. were 
born:

10. Prissy Ann	b.	1854, m. ??? Richardson.
11. William W.	b.	1855, m. unknown.

13. Emmett	b.	186?, m. Lydia Cason, 10/4/1883.

It is not known when Nancy Carter Davis died, but later James Madison Davis 
married ??? Turner, first name unknown, as his third wife.
He served in the Indian Wars under Capt. N. J. Holton from October 1838 to 
January 16, 1839. Also served under Capt. James A. Sweat from August 19, 
1840 to November 10, 1840. It is not known when or where James M. Davis 
died nor where he is buried. A Nancy Davis drew a salt allowance in Pierce 
County, Georgia in 1864. It is not known if this Nancy was the wife of 
James Madison Davis. To date no Civil War service record has been found for 
James M. Davis.
