Linda,
     The point of the wives I believe is to prove the connection to the next 
generation.  Some of them had more than one wife.  So they have to have proof 
as to which family that person belonged.  When I joined all I did is to 
contact a local chapter and the regent invited me to the meeting.  I went and 
told them I wanted to join.  They voted for me to join which doesn't mean a 
hill of beans.  They let anyone with the correct proof join.  Then I 
submitted my papers and that is all I did.  I did have proof on the mother, 
father, child etc.  All I can say is please give them another try.  You don't 
have to be rich and your ancestors didn't have to be rich.  Otherwise I 
wouldn't be a member.
