In Issue 329, Jennifer wrote, "There were Crofts' living in Spartanburg Co.,

bells?"

My reply is yes, it rings bells. George Croft is the son of Frederick Croft,
born about 1740, place unknown. The first known record of Frederick Croft is
a land survey for 225 acres of land in 1785 in what is now Greenville Co. SC.
He had 11 children, including George, and died in Greenville Co. SC in 1805.
Yes, my George md. Rebecca Cox and had 11 children, but as far as I know, he
was never in Spartanburg Co. He is listed in the 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1840
Greenville Co. SC census, and there are a number of land transactions in
Greenville Co. during those years. I am searching for the ancestry of
Frederick Croft and would like to exchange info with anyone on SCROOTS, on any
Crofts in the upper areas of SC. Mel Croft
