Indians had their own census called rolls...I would find it very unusual
for an Indian to be listed on the regular census...but 1850 most of them
were in OK or Reservations...Charlotte

This may sound like an odd question, but I was looking at a barely
legible 1850 Census entry for Laurens County. In Dwelling 2034, page
333, I came across an entry for a Robert Woods (age 25). The next name
was a C-something and what looked like the word "Indian." This was
followed by the indicatoion it was a female age 21.

Does anybody have a clue if, in 1850, the census taker would have,
simply wrote down an indian female and not a name? And secondly, were
there any Croatan Indians marrying Woodses in Laurens County in 1850? I
realize the last question is a bit absurd, but, of course, I must ask
it.

Thanks for your indulgence.
