Subject: Croatan Indians From: Brett Woods Date: March 18, 1999 This may sound like an odd question, but I was looking at a barely legible 1850 Census entry for Laurens County. In Dwelling 2034, page 333, I came across an entry for a Robert Woods (age 25). The next name was a C-something and what looked like the word "Indian." This was followed by the indicatoion it was a female age 21. Does anybody have a clue if, in 1850, the census taker would have, simply wrote down an indian female and not a name? And secondly, were there any Croatan Indians marrying Woodses in Laurens County in 1850? I realize the last question is a bit absurd, but, of course, I must ask it. Thanks for your indulgence.
