COOK, JAMES MELVIN	1874-1960 	BERRIEN

James Melvin "Jim" Cook was born in Berrien County, Georgia, May 3, 1874, a 
son of John Jasper Cook (Vol.VIII) and Lucretia Sirmans, a daughter of 
James Sirmans (Vol.IV). He was married February 5, 1899 to Cora Malissa 
Knight, born in Berrien County, Georgia, August 14, 1882, a daughter of 
George W. Knight (Vol.VI) and Rhoda Futch, daughter of John M. Futch 
(Vol.Ill). She died January 7, 1941. Then Mr. Cook married Maud McKinnon 
Vickers on November 30, 1941, the widow of Bartley Vickers. Maud died 
December 13, 1982, and is buried at Arnie Cemetery, Atkinson County, 
Georgia. There were no children by this marriage. To Mr. Cook and his first 
wife were born five children:

1. Loisa Mae	b. 4/25/1900, m. George 0. Thigpen, 	7/4/1926, son of Ed.
2. Fred Lowell	b. 5/2/1902, m. 1) Sydney V. Thigpen, 4/22/1925, dau. of Ed.
		2) Cleo Walden, 3/3/1941, 	dau. of Keelin.
3. Albert Allen	b. 8/5/1904, m. Gladys Griffin, 4/1/1927, dau. of Talley.
4. Ola Lee	b. 7/10/1907, m. S. J. Guthrie, 2/22/1935, son of Dred.
5. Mabel Edith	b. 6/13/1911, m. Thomas Patten, 12/20/1936, son of Walter.

Jim and Cora Cook joined Empire Primitive Baptist Church in 1910. They were 
ordained deacon and deaconess in 1911 and served in that position until 
their deaths. They are buried in Empire Cemetery. Their graves are marked.
Mr. Cook served on the Lanier County Board of Education for many years. In 
1897, he bought and lived in, until his death, the old home place of his 
grandparents and then his parents on land lot No. 335, 10th District, where 
his daughter-in-law, Cleo Cook, his daughter, Ola Guthrie and great 
grandson, Selmon Jay Guthrie, 11, and his family now live.

COOK, ELIJAH (p. 51): (1) Mr. Cook and his family after leaving Wilkinson 
County, first settled in Irwin County where they are found in the 1850 
census. The section they lived in is now Tift County. After a few years' 
residence there they moved to Berrien County as stated. (2) The son, F. M. 
Cook, married Ann J. Ford, Feb. 27, 1879; she was a daughter of Wm. A. Ford 
of Berrien County.

COOK, INSTANCE (P.69): (1) There was another daughter named Mary, born 
1863, married Thomas Shelton Deen; she should be added to the list of 
children. (2) The daughter listed as Elizabeth and shown as born 1868, had 
the full name of Elizabeth Piety and is listed in the 1860 Census of Coffee 
County as Piety Cook, age 3 years. She was born in Appling County, Feb. 7, 
1856, and married Andrew W. Clements of Telfair County in 1870. She was 
therefore the fourth child of her parents instead of the 10th.

COOK, GEORGE (p.52): The daughter, Mary, married Rev. John J. Triggs (not 
Twiggs), a member of the Georgia Conference, Methodist Church.

COOK, ELIJAH - VOL.111: The son, Francis M., was married to Annie J. Ford
