Confederates in Brazil - Galinahist
Subject: Confederates in Brazil

As a part of my The Civil War in South Carolina site, I have a page dedicated
to The Brazilian Migration. I have listed there the surnames of many of the
families who migrated - particularly from South Carolina, but large groups
also left from Louisianna, Arkansas, and Texas.

Here in the Edgefield / Aiken County area, the complete communities of
Merriweather and Martintown went to Brazil.

My reference is:

REF: Harter, Eugene C., The Lost Colony of the Confederacy. Jackson, MS,
University Press of Mississippi 1985. pg. 126-28.

I found the book quite interesting to read, but I discovered that the index is
woefully deficient and did not have the time to index the book for my web site
before having to return it to the library. I had gotten it on inter-library
loan.
