You will find a wealth of information at the Caroliniana Library on the U.S.C. campus and the state archives on Parklane Rd. in Columbia. In Charleston, the Charleston County Library on Calhoun St. is just one of the good places to do research. There are other places in Charleston but I have not used them yet.
