Cindy all the early SC deeds were filed in Charles Town present day
Charleston...SC Archives has a wonderful index that you can send and
request a whole surname...that will also list revolutionary records for
that surname...this is for land records...I haven't gotten to will
indexes yet...but the LDS library has most of the early land records in
their collection as well...good luck...Charlotte

Hi again,

Another question: I have several ancestors from Santee, French Santee,
Craven,
Yemassee, Robertville, Black Swamp--were these part of Beaufort
District? Was
Edisto Island part of Colleton? Not sure where to look for records on
these
folks! Does anyone know what the earliest records are? Most of these
people
appear to be Huguenots, but I have yet to find their names on any
passenger
lists I've seen so far... Would love to get copies of wills, deeds,
ship
info, etc. on them Any suggestions very much appreciated!
