Subject: Re: Col. Francis Marions Men, Swamp Fox Book From: Joe Jones Date: June 11, 2000 For Betty Dawn DuBose Hamilton and anyone interested in the book "Swamp Fox", "The life and campaigns of General Francis Marion" - Copyright 1959 by Roberrt Duncan Bass, copyright 1974 by The Sandlapper Store, Inc., first published by Henry Holt and Company. This edition (mine) published by Sandlapper Publishing Co., Inc., P.O. Box 1932, Orangeburg, South Carolina 29116-1932, 3rd printing, 1982. It may be available at bookstores. Since I am just down the street from Sandlapper in Orangeburg, I'll check on availability and post another message. The index shows two mentions of DuBose, here are the quotes: "He often visited among his brothers and enjoyed the society of the Cordes, Peyres, DuBoses, Gourdins, Horrys, Mazycks, Porchers and other Huguenots." also, in response to orders from William Moultrie, dated November 19, 1775: "Away marched Captain Marion, with Lieutenants Baker, DuBose, and Shubrick and with sixty-four men of his company and thirty-eight of Huger's." This is in regard to reinforcing troops at Dorchester, getting the arsenal straightend up and guarding and defending it. Could the Lieutenant DuBose be John's son? I wonder if my Jeremiah Jones was one of the privates? He was with Marion "off and on" - between farming, or other reasons for a trip back to Darlington District.
