Subject: Re: Cleaning and restoring some old picture frames From: Janabears Date: January 30, 2000 I have used scratch remover liquid to cover up the scratches in wood, whether it was an old bed or new table. It comes in different shades and can be found in the furniture polish section of your local Walmart, Kmart or other store. You just used a clean cloth to wipe it on, then wipe it off, applying again if more color is desired. Another method is to paint the surface, let dry, then cover with a color stain of your choice. With wood frames there is also wood putty sticks at the local Home Depot in the furniture refinishing section. I have painted ceramics for years and would paint the piece, then completely cover the piece with stain, either spray or brush. Then immediately wipe the stain down until it was only in the crevices. Made the piece look old. Look in your local ceramic store for the supplies. If you want to make your own frames out of plaster or ceramic, buy the unfinished picture frame and do it yourself, that way you can have a frame that looks old and paint it the color of your choice. If this is confusing, I will be glad to explain the process to anyone who needs help in doing their own "antique" frame.
