It's my understanding that the Civil War records are rather scattered an 
in a bit of a disarray in the various state archives and there isn't any 
complete *book* on them...

MO however, has passed a law, that if you send to their state archive 
for your ancestors civil war record they have to furnish to you free of 
charge...that's how I got my 2nd great grandfather's record...however, I 
think he was drafted into the Union, didn't go and my uncle blieves he 
was one of Quantrills raiders...some of those are also listed in various 
sources...Charlotte
