I've watched the recent banter about how to find ancestors who may have
served in the Civil War. If any of you are like me this could seemto be
a daunting task. I also know that I'm about to be baraged with messages
and I will respond as quicly as I can. My 3x granfather, William Isaac
TINDAL served supposedly in the Civil war and died frominjuries or in
prison in June of 1864. I, however have not been able to find any
record of him serving. Writing the National Archivves at this point
would be of little use since I don't know if he actually did serve, do
not know a unit, and connot find a pension request. Then someone told
me about a 22 volume "enclycolopedia" at the Virgina State Library in
Richmond which lists every person on the rosters and muster rolls for
EVERY unit that fought in the Civil War. I'm going there tomarrow
(Tuesday April 21 1998) or the next day to look for mine. If you would
like me to look for your elusive Civil War vertern please e- mail me
privately with then name, Date of birth or approx. age at time of
enlistment, and where they were from.
