Thanks Kinta. Yes, I am familiar with that book and that tax payers list.
This was my reference for my statement about George Chicken and Dr.Nathaniel
Snow being in Sc in 1694

But there is at least one problem with the book. The author is in error when
he/she says that the widow of Capt. Chicken became Mrs. Elias Ball. It was
Lydia Child, the second wife and widow of the son of the Capt., George
Chicken JUNIOR, who after the son's death married Elias Ball. This just
shows to go that you have to be careful of info given in without
documentation. Sort of like the Internet, I'm afraid..

You have hit on the problem. Only the one reference from a supposed Bible
record gives a Frances Chicken as the wife of Dr. Nathaniel Snow. There is
nothing in the SC records nor other evidence which I know of, but the
persists the elder Snow had married Frances Chicken. But Frances IS
a family name of the Chickens way back in the 1500s.

Thanks too for the info from <>. I seem to recall that Lydia
was not the first wife of Elias Ball Jr. But somewher I read that she was
Elias' <>- I guess this was said in <>.

I suspect I have most of the refernces to George Chicken, but what other
information do you find for Dr. Snow? I know he came to SC from Barbados,
but is there any indication where it might have been before Barbados?.It
would be useful to find that his family were of Northumberland or Durham
England where the Chickens were.

Another piece of info lacking from the records is more information on
Capt/Col George's wife, Catherine, the widow of Thomas Bellamy. It would be
useful to know her maiden name and whether she had been married to Bellamy
in SC.

Thank you for your offer of assistance. I DO have one thing which perhaps
you might be able to help.

John Hentie, the Deputy Surveyor for Berkeley and other counties, was
apparently connected closely to the Balls, Chickens and Serre's. Does any of
the information on the Balls have anything to say about him? I do know that
when Hentie died, one of the Elias Balls, probably his major creditor, was
executor for whatever estate Hentie had. My interest in him comes about
because I suspect the first wife of my ancestor William Chicken, another son
of George Sr, was a Hentie.

Thanks again for your interest and help. Sincerely, Ed T of PGH

Do you have "Historic Goose Creek, South Carolina, 1670 - 1980" ?? Don't

>listing taxpayers in 1694 says" Captain George Chicken, 1820 pounds,

I am still . Does anyone know of the location of a Bible
record which states that Dr. Nathaniel SNOW married Frances CHICKEN? I
>want
 to confirm this.

Dr.Snow came from Barbados to SC probably in the late 1600s, as he is
>listed
as paying a quite large tax in the Goose Creek SC area in the 1690s. My
ancestor Capt. George CHICKEN is also listed on the tax list.

What is the relationship of George and Frances? I do not expect an answer
>to
this but this is one of the problems I am trying to solve. There were
members of the CHICKEN family very early in Northumberland England. Were
>the
SNOWS also from that area of England?

Thanks for your help. Ed T of PGH
