Subject: CHASSEREAU - Mid 1700's - Present > SC>GA>USA From: AChasserea Date: May 16, 1998 I have been collecting CHASSEREAU family history and information for many years but keep running into the "brickwall." The name is spelled differently in almost every document. The earliest SC Chassereau I can locate is a John Chassereau who "lived near Three Mile Creek in Orangeburg District on waters of the Great Satlcatchers (sic) Swamp." His neighbor was Abijah O'Neal. Also, a John Chassereau sold George Bishop 50 acres of land in Barnwell County on August 10, 1796. John Chassereau (Chesareau) received land grants in SC in 1786 and 1789. Other Chassereaus - possibly sons of John Chassereau - were Joseph Chassereau (Casuahau), b. abt. 1807, Isaac Chassereau (Chessherau), b. abt. 1812, Jacob Chassereau (Casssereau), b. abt 1813, and John Alfred Chassereau (Casuahau), b. June 23, 1817. Questions? Where did originial Chassereau come from? Reviews of ship passenger lists reveal little information. I would like to communicate with anyone who is a Chassereau descendant, anyone with Chassereau or allied family information, or anyone who can point me toward possible sources of information about this family. Any help or information will be deeply appreciated and I will gladly share information I have with others. Can you help me break through this brickwall? Thanks!
