Subject: Re: Charleston City Burial Grould From: Janet Jilote Date: December 26, 1999 There were several City Burial Grounds. The stadium is standing on one such location. There were also many other smaller 'grounds'. I know of some that were on East Bay St that were paved over and houses built over some sites on Hanover St, St John's Episcopal Chapel. There were black and white public cemeteries. And the poor man's plots were more often unkept and eventually abandoned and paved over or built upon. If I'm not mistaken, there was a City Burial Ground on King St at one time near Queen. (so many lost notes, and lost thoughts... which started out as "I won't forget that!") Have you tried contacting the Chas Cnty Library? They helped last time I had a question concerning locations of cemeteries. I wish you well in you search.
