CARITHERS m Mary McGowen June 22 1779 at "an old fort on the Savannah"..Mary 
McGowen was the daughter of JAME MCGOWEN who had a ferry on the upper 
Savannah. Children of Wm and Mary Carithers: Elizabeth 1780; Sarah 1782; 
Mathew 1784; James D. 1786 (Miss Swansey); William C 1788 (Mary Ann 
Griffith); Samuel L 1791 (Eliz Johnson); John S 1793; Hugh M 1796 (Miss 
Gallaspie); Robert 1800 (Hannah Parks). This family served in REV 
WAR..Possible brothers: Robert (Mary Luckie); Hugh, Samuel, John, James 
Carithers. Need parentage of William. Location of his burial. Who was Mathew 
Carithers d. Abbeville 1782..possible father? Where is he buried. William 
Carithers was a member of the Rocky River Tract Group. Any information is 
appreciated.
