Book I-3, p. 1 7 & 8 Oct. 1767 SAMUEL CARNE, formerly a physician in Charleston, SC, now a merchant in London, by his attorneys, JOHN ROSE, gentleman, & DR ROBERT WILSON, of Charleston; to ALEXANDER PETRIE, gentleman, of Charleston, for L14,000 SC money, 2 adjoining lots #229 & #178 in Charleston, fronting on Broad & Tradd Streets. Whereas by L & R dated 1 & 2 Dec. 1758 ALEXANDER CHISHOLME, vintner, of Charleston, sold SAMUEL CARNE lot #229 bounding according to plat annexed to said release, which lot had been granted by the Lords Proprs. to JOHN ELLIOTT; also half of lot #178, with its edifices, etc., fronting N 50 ft. on Broad Street; 200 ft. deep; bounding S on lot #229; W on MARY ELLIS (formerly EDWARD CROFT); E o WILLIAM MATTHEWES (now SAMUEL CARNE); & whereas by L & R dated 18 & 19 Sept. 1763, ANTHONY MATTHEWES, gentleman, of Johns Island, St. Johns Parish, Colleton Co., sold SAMUEL CARNE the E half of lot #178, with its edifies, bounding N 50 ft. on Broad Street; S & W on SAMUEL CARNE; E 200 ft. on JOHN DRAYTON; & whereas CARNE has been in possession of said premises, commonly called Orange Garden, for several years past & desires to sell the property on 4 June last appointed ROSE & WILSON his attorneys; now they sell a part to PETRIE.
