After going over again your message of April 21, I have begun to wonder if
the history section of the St James Santee Parish records are incorrect, and
they have confused Richard with James? Or perhaps BOTH were Captains under
Francis Marion?

Richard is said to have been born 1732, before the Georgetown land grant.
Yours is not the first mention that the "Capt. Withers,  under Marion" was
James. The question now is "was Richard also an Officer who served under
Marion and, perhaps, also under Col. Peter Horry"?

Perhaps someone seeing this on SCROOTS or SCHORRY will have an answer for
us.
